
After school, Sullivan joined Reuters where he worked as a financial correspondent from 1983 to 1984 but later quit his job to become a political reporter in Washington D.C.

Sullivan returned to the United States in 1982 where he furthered his studies at Northwestern University, School of Journalism. Soon after his graduation, Sullivan served in the Peace Corps during which he spent most of his time teaching children in the Sahara Desert. Sullivan was born in Medfield, Massachusetts, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Hamilton University in 1980. His books include The Rogue, The Purification Ceremony, and Triple Cross.
